What to do about Ahmadinejad’s WMD?

Strong opinions over at The Currency Lad.

Frankly, I don’t know what the west should do. It would be plain madness to buy Iran’s claim that its nuclear program was for peaceful purposes only. It’s also impossible to ignore the frequent cries from Iran’s leaders for Israel to be expunged from the Middle East. Put the two things together, and they add up to a watershed. Something has to be done. But what?

Mark Steyn, as always, is invaluable.

The cost of de-nuking Iran will be high now but significantly higher with every year it’s postponed. The lesson of the Danish cartoons is the clearest reminder that what is at stake here is the credibility of our civilization. Whether or not we end the nuclearization of the Islamic Republic will be an act that defines our time.

Got that, Mark. But I still can’t see clearly just what the west should do about it.

1) Leave it to the UN. Unlikely to do achieve anything.
2) Leave it to diplomacy. Possible, but unpromising.
3) A military strike by the US. Feasible, but politically hideous.
4) A military strike by Israel. Hmm….

Good thing I’m not the President of the United States. I wonder what he’s thinking.
