Vale Oriana Fallaci

September 18, 2006

The Italian journalist Oriana Fallaci has died. I didn’t agree with everything she wrote, but boy, I admired her indominable, unconquerable spirit. She died on the very day that the Pope — who recently granted her a private audience, despite her nominal atheism — was vilified and threatened with death by Islamists for saying less than the tiniest fraction of what she herself had said about Islam. And he never even said it. Predictably, though, the west’s media cheer-led for those who would happily murder both of them.

Strange times.

Myself, I don’t think it was the cancer that killed her. I think it was her broken European-American heart.
